Sven-Goran Eriksson funeral: Candle in the Wind plays as David Beckham joins mourners

Mourners, including David Beckham, gathered at Torsby Church in Sweden for the funeral of former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Eriksson, who died at the age of 76 on 24th February, was remembered as a "great friend" and a "wonderful manager" by those who knew him.

The service was led by Bishop Sören Dalevi, who described Eriksson as a "warm and generous man" who would be "greatly missed."

The congregation sang hymns including Candle in the Wind, which was played at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, who Eriksson was close to.

Eriksson's coffin was draped in the Swedish flag and was carried into the church by four pallbearers, including former England players David Beckham and Gary Neville.

Beckham, who played under Eriksson for England, said he was "honoured" to be a pallbearer.

He said: "Sven was a great friend and a wonderful manager."

"He was a man who always had time for you, no matter how busy he was. He was always there to help and support you, both on and off the pitch.

"He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him."

Other mourners included former England manager Roy Hodgson, former England captain Alan Shearer, and current England manager Gareth Southgate.

Southgate said: "Sven was a great manager and a great man.

"He was a pioneer in English football and he helped to change the way the game was played in this country.

"He will be remembered as one of the greatest managers of all time."

Eriksson's funeral was a celebration of his life and his achievements.

He will be remembered as a great manager, a great friend, and a great man.
