Keir Starmer Israel Ceasefire

Labour rebels over Starmer's stance on Israel-Gaza

Starmer calls for ceasefire, but 56 Labour MPs vote against

The Labour leader has faced criticism from both sides of the conflict

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has suffered a major rebellion over his stance on the Israel-Gaza war, with 56 of his MPs voting against a motion calling for a ceasefire.

The motion, which was put forward by the Labour Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), called for an immediate end to the violence and for a just and lasting peace settlement.

Starmer has said that he supports a ceasefire, but he has also been critical of Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza. He has said that Hamas must stop firing rockets into Israel and that it must take steps to improve the lives of the Palestinian people.

The rebellion against Starmer is a sign of the deep divisions within the Labour Party over the Israel-Gaza conflict. Some MPs believe that Starmer is not being critical enough of Israel, while others believe that he is being too critical of Hamas.

The conflict in Israel-Gaza has been going on for over a week and has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people. The United Nations has called for a ceasefire, but so far there has been no agreement.

The ceasefire debate has exposed bitter divisions within the Labour Party. Starmer will need to find a way to bridge these divisions if he wants to unite his party and lead it to victory at the next general election.
